ABOUT SIMONE
BIOGRAPHY

Simone Weber-Luckham: energetic, analytical, independent, practical, philosophical and spiritual. These are the characteristics that Simone gives to her work and her life. She is a practical sculptress who's primary work has been commission and teaching hand tool techniques.

In her work, she enjoys the challenge of bringing the tender images which live within her mind out of pieces of Stone. Her work is well thought out and disciplined, more calculated than free form. She uses texture in place of detail, and prefers form in place of polish.

Born in Solothurn, Switzerland, she grew up in a rural Swiss village. She was raised in a family which loved to travel,  a mother who's creative talents where evident throughout their home and a father who's spiritual interests guided the family. Simone's creativity began early and was encouraged and developed further through her later school years at a Waldorf School, where she graduated.

Upon graduation she started a 4 year apprenticeship as a Stone Sculptress in a nearby village, although prior to this she had considered pursuing a path to becoming a teacher.

The Apprenticeship included Art School and On the job training. The first 2 years of the Apprenticeship was completely Hand Tool work to cultivate an intimate knowledge of the Tools and Materials. This work included stone preparation, inscription, relief as well as 3 dimensional sculpture and the fabrication of tools.

After receiving her papers as Steinbildhauerin, she felt she deserved a break and spent a year traveling North America, particularly Canada. On Vancouver Island, Canada  she met her future Husband who joined her  for a year in Switzerland where she continued working as a Professional Sculptress. They returned to Canada and settled on Thetis Island, a small Gulf Island off Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Here the Luckham's built first Simone's Studio and then their home.

Simone presently works in Clay, Plaster of Paris, Limestone, Marble and Granite, her most successful sculptures to date are her 2 children, Alexander and Tegan .

Simone has been well received by the Sculpture community for her breadth of knowledge, and skills. She has been a guest instructor and gives private tutoring in hand tool techniques.
